Happy Birthday, hide!
I knew there was something today... a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the inimitable, ever-so-awesome, crazy genius known as hide!

In celebration because it's so symbolic:

~* HURRY GO ROUND *~

I've been also watching some of his live stuff, mostly the solo works, complete with hide's stage antics ranging from stealing the camera to bouncing all over the place to groping his band members. SO GOOD. I hadn't really listened to either him or X for a few months and it feels great to come back to it all. Thank you, hide, for always being here.

Actually, I have the sudden urge to put some random catch-phrase of his as my LJ name (not the username as such, obviously). We'll see about that. But for now...

MISERY (Live) ~ Beauty & Stupid (Live) ~ 50% & 50% (Live) ~ LEMONed I Scream (Live) ~ Rocket Dive (Live)

Current Mood: cheerfulcheered up
Current Music: 'Rocket Dive (Live)' - hide with Spread Beaver

No problem!

My god, he was so beautiful!

Agreed! He's actually influenced my personal view of beauty a lot (him and X-Japan, which is the band he was also in). I can recommend you more of his stuff if you'd like. :D

I wouldn't just like, I'd love. ♥ I've heard a lot about X-Japan, but never really heard much of their music... where would you recommend starting to listen?

Awesome! But yeah, that's just the thing - X is such a totally epic band, so it's hard to find where to start. I'd recommend you to have a look at their older stuff first (the Blue Blood album and such) so you know where they're coming from. Then the era where they sort of tune down their image (well, except for hide), the Dahlia album, The Last Live, and then finally 'I.V.', the reunion concerts and hide's memorial. Of course, parallel to some of that you also have hide's solo career. There's plenty up on YouTube, maybe almost too many of the same songs posted a thousand times over. Maybe it would be easier if I just made you a link list or something...

That'd be really, really nice, if it's not too much trouble!

Heh, okay, this is gonna be epic.

General sites and info:
X-Japan.de (A pretty extensive site that has been around forever.)
KurenaiX (More focused on hide, with tons of rare material)
Cafe le Psyence (hide everywhere!)

SONGS/VIDEOS (trying to be more or less chronological):

Stab Me in the Back (Live) - old school!
WeekEnd - I always recommend this video, I wonder why.
Endless Rain - awesome early ballad
Say Anything - another ballad and just as awesome
X (Live) - the anthem (and this version of it is fairly short, you haven't seen the ones with "WE ARE X!!" thrown in the middle)
Drain (Live) - a little variation
Kurenai (The Last Live) - I love this version of the song, seriously. One of their best known works.
Orgasm (The Last Live): Part I & II - EPIC EPIC EPIC
Forever Love (The Last Live) - have tissues ready.
I.V. - and ten years later...
Without You (from the reunion concert) - Yoshiki's song for hide
Pink Spider (hide memorial summit) - Cover of one of hide's songs with Yoshiki playing his guitar. (Yeah, he plays the piano, drums, guitar... apparently everything.)
See, I told you there was way too much! This is not to say "GO WATCH THEM ALL RIGHT NOW", but as a sort of guidance since I don't know where else their songs could be found online. And I didn't even put in the really insane (but brilliant) stuff like 'Art of Life' that lasts almost a half an hour... XD

As for hide's solo career, you can start with checking out the videos I linked to in the original post? And I can recommend you more later if you like.

Whew! XD
