It's been one year since DH! I remember how anxious I had been for my favourite characters' sakes, what an insane ride it was to actually read the thing once I'd gotten my hands on it... And now it has already been a year. I know, in terms of time it's not that much, but it's a nice landmark.

Before I read this book I thought that I wouldn't like it, that Harry Potter woud definetely survive and Voldemort would die. But what I wouldn't have dreamed of is that I would discover a new favourite pairing. I#ve never fought that Grindeldore would finally give me a reason to make use of my lj-account and that I would actually start to write HP-fic.

I don't like the rest of the book (the epilogue!) very much, but since there is Grindeldore I don't mind :)

Seriously, I'm obsessed with Grindeldore! HP was never more important to me than after the release of the final book.

I know, I'd been so afraid the last book would just suck. There are so many things that could have been handled the wrong way! It's not perfect, I guess, but there's enough to make up for anything. And yeah, I could hardly believe the last volume actually gave me a new obsessive pairing! I'm glad you did start on fanfic, by the way. ^_^

Not very fond of the epilogue either, but since it doesn't mess with the characters I care about most, I can live with it. At least I like the closing "all was well" thing. xD

It's a good thing to be obsessed with! It's crazy that I can hardly stop writing about those two. I love R/S as well, but I haven't managed to finish any of my longer fics about them so far...

It's been a year, it's hard to believe. I've strayed away a bit from the HP Fandom but I'll never stray away from Grindeldore :D

But oddly enough when I think of DH I think more of all the wank it caused rather than book in itself. (Grindeldore being on a different level altogether.) The reactions of the Harmonians, the SnapeFen, the DracoFen, the Slytherfen and all the bitter and disgruntled fans who did not get what they want and started bashing books and authors... XD It was EPIC... And it still going on XD

I liked the book well, I still prefer HBP but DH is my second favourite. Dumbledore's backstory is, of course, my favourite part of the book but I liked other parts of the book. I loved Ron *w* and for once, did not hate Harry straight away. I like the innuendos between Draco & Harry.

I must be one of the few who likes the epilogue in the fandom :D It's not well written but the children (and the AS/S) are like crack for me :D

Heh, it does seem unbelievable. I'm not really in the fandom as a whole either, just the R/S and AD/GG parts. Some other corners seem a bit scary to tread. XD

You're right there was a lot of wank after that... it's like everyone who didn't agree with the way something turned out tore the book apart. Which is kind of pointless, really. XD

I was surprised I actually liked Harry more than before in DH! (Though I bitterly wanted to hit him giving pretentious moral lessons to Remus, because seriously. What.) DH is my among my favorites in the series as well, together with PoA and OotP.

Well, I don't particularly care about the epilogue, so I won't rip your head off for liking it. XD It annoyed me all the surviving main characters including the antagonizing Draco ended up the SAME WAY (hello, heteronormativity, not nice to see you at all!), but oh well, one can't always have everything. Agree about the crack, though! XD

Nostalgia, indeed.:-)

I think DH has a lot of weaknesses - the Elder Wand plot doesn't make much sense, for instance - but there are also a lot of enjoyable things, Grindeldore being one of them. It's also quite strange to think about how the story is definitely over...
See you later, instigator: Albus/Gellert (by ushitora_icons)oudeteron on July 22nd, 2008 01:16 pm (UTC)

I think there are weak points in any book of the series, so even if DH has its own, I don't see it as so much worse than the others the way some people said afterwards. For me things like Grindeldore make up for what bothers me in there as well. ^_^ Anyway, you're right, it's odd to realize it's over. All the same, though, I wouldn't want JKR to continue. I have a suspicion it could only go wrong from here (to have resulted in that epilogue! XD).

Mmm. Sometimes, you know, I wake up in the morning and think that there's something more to come (probably because of a Potter-themed dream) and then I have to remind myself, "No...Voldemort's dead, Harry's grown-up and married Ginny, his part in the tale is finished..." It's quite strange, but it's almost like what I went through when I lost my grandfathers, though on a much smaller scale. I'd see something and think, "wow, my paternal grandfather would like that song," and then I'd suddenly realise that he wasn't around anymore. I hope it's not mild memory loss that's a symptom of early-onset Alzheimer's...

Shows I'm a bit of a moron, really, if I consider losing Harry Potter to be like losing a real person. But yeah...

Everyone else has written about their experiences with Grindeldore here, but to be honest, they didn't become my OTP until after Dumbledore had been outed. I was really thick and didn't get the subtext until then...I honestly wasn't interested in much apart from Harry's part of the story. And then I found I had nothing left to read, went over to the dark side fanfic...and it all began...
See you later, instigator: hideoudeteron on July 22nd, 2008 01:27 pm (UTC)
Aww, I know about that feeling. I was so restless after I first finished the book - I just kept wanting to DO something about it, like it all should continue or happen again or something. And it's weird to think it's over for good. Maybe it's not so much memory loss as a bit of unwitting denial...

Oh no, I can see how it would be similar. It is a bit sad to think about.

You're like a lot of the people who only joined the Grindeldore comm after the outing, then! (That's not to say it's bad, I was just really amazed how the membership skyrocketed from just around a hundred to where it is now.) I guess if you're mainly interested in some other part of the story, you may not pick up on stuff relating to the more "obscure" characters. I'm a huge sucker for side-plots, so I was hooked pretty much instantly. ; ) I know it's redundant to say it now, but COME TO THE DARK SIDE! We got cookies! XD

Mm, I know, it's so incredible that it's already been a year! It's still so weird to me to know everything. I'm so used to having parts of the plot still be in the dark.
See you later, instigator: YoshikiLoveoudeteron on July 22nd, 2008 01:28 pm (UTC)
I know! It's comforting to know nothing major can change anymore, though. Whatever hasn't been said by now is ours forever! xD
Ramblings of a madman: Pensive young Albusghostangel on July 22nd, 2008 12:20 am (UTC)
You know, we still have the movie (movies? I heard they might split it a-la Kill Bill...) to look forward to. Also, even though the fandom is quiet for Grindeldore, I'm glad it still lived one year later! :D

Grindeldore helped me get over my depression and keep going after being fired from my job two days before the books came out...
See you later, instigator: Albus/Gellert (by ushitora_icons)oudeteron on July 22nd, 2008 01:35 pm (UTC)
Yeah, that's true. (I've also heard movie!DH is going to be split into two - all right, then, I demand some Albus/Gellert goodness! It's not like they can ignore them, right?) I think we have enough people in the fandom to keep it alive now. I was a little concerned at the beginning of last October, though... But it's speaking pretty loudly to me now, I need to catch up on the comm after almost three weeks of not checking! XD

*hugs* I'm really glad Grindeldore was around then.
remecielremeciel on July 22nd, 2008 08:29 am (UTC)
I actually thought it wouldn't be such an important date to reminded me about, but now, I can't help feeling nostalgia about the whole HP series, and how so many people seem to get bored with it now.
See you later, instigator: 30StM - Revolution (by blokkengraphics)oudeteron on July 22nd, 2008 01:37 pm (UTC)
I guess that with nostalgia, no one is immune. It's almost uncanny how well I remember that entire time, though. What people are bored with it? I can imagine the ones outside fandom would be, but otherwise I haven't noticed much of a change...

Imaginesimagines on July 25th, 2008 07:14 pm (UTC)
That is so weird. A year ago, I was so completely different from myself now. I hadn't gone to school, I hadn't met a lot of new people, the poetry group hadn't yet begun, I had hair down to my waist...damn. It doesn't seem like it should have been that long yet! (I'm still going to be happy forever that I called Bellatrix's death. :p)

My mom handed me your postcard today! Eeee, thank you! It took me a second--"Alex? I don't know an--WAIT, OXFORD? YES I DO. :D:D:D" I'm really bad at remembering people's RL names because I always call them by their LJ names in my head. XD
See you later, instigator: YoshikiLoveoudeteron on July 25th, 2008 07:35 pm (UTC)
It's always weird to equate years to how you used to be, isn't it? Seems like a lot has changed in that time. (Oh yeah, speaking of hair, I'd had it dyed some... three times since then? Or maybe just twice?) It just seems so long to measure it in years already. (Me too! And Moody's, though I wasn't happy about that.)

That postcard! I'm glad you got it! ^_^ I did read your journal after coming back (only now I don't know how to get back to commenting - I fail like that, always thinking "you weren't there to comment before, so what are you gonna say now to make any sense?") and I'd been a bit anxious knowing it had probably arrived by then and you were away. So this is a relief. XD (Hee, LJ names > RL names!)
