The Ninth Anniversary

Nine years ago today - May 2nd, 1998 - the world lost a great musician named Hideto 'hide' Matsumoto, who was famous both as the lead guitarist of X Japan and as a solo artist. He was only thirty-three years old when he died.

hide was original and unpredictable in his style, so I think it would be inappropriate to use the same old phrases in relation to him. I am sad to say that I only discovered his work after his death, but it has convinced me that his music is alive no matter what. I believe he must have been a wonderful person and as long as the people who have loved him keep him in their hearts, he shall not be forgotten.

Remember that you never know how long you have left to live.

May you always rest in peace, hide.

Dear... I almost forgot it was today. I cried like a baby when I heard the news in 1998.

At least you remember how it was when it actually happened. I didn't even know about him back then!
remeciel: lighthouseremeciel on May 4th, 2007 05:44 pm (UTC)
I may have "known" him for a week before learning about his suicide... :((

Only a week? Well, that's not much...

But it's actually still unknown how and why he died. There have been various theories, but so far they haven't been confirmed. I doubt we'll ever know what exactly happened.

I wonder why there's so much mystery about his death. He did commit suicide, right? no one who inverstigated thought it might be... a murderer, right? *shudders*
See you later, instigatoroudeteron on May 5th, 2007 06:06 pm (UTC)
In fact, I've even noticed some rumors about a murderer, but only once or twice. Basically, it's still unsure if the death was a suicide or an accident. I've heard that people who knew him all claimed he wouldn't have killed himself. But there's also the theory about Pink Spider being a suicide note because of the song's lyrics, plus the fact that hide was depressed and drinking a lot at the time. Really, it seems that no one knows for certain.

I guess this can't be a murderer, then... but thinking is was so depressed and that no one could have helped him... :/
See you later, instigator: yoshikiloveoudeteron on May 6th, 2007 09:37 am (UTC)
It could still have been an accident. *pats*

I think he had some project planned with Yoshiki at the time. That makes the thought of it being suicide especially sad...
remeciel: Hokutoremeciel on May 6th, 2007 11:31 am (UTC)
Ah, I remember someone telling me it was an accident, indeeed.

I didn't know about it! what's to become of Yoshiki btw?
See you later, instigator: cuteyoshioudeteron on May 6th, 2007 07:08 pm (UTC)
Well, it's the most accepted theory.

As far as I know, Yoshiki was seriously depressed for years afterwards (I've even found his blog recently and it looks like he still hasn't completely overcome it) but he continued working as a composer and producer. He started another project, Violet UK, which is extremely different from X. (Trying to forget or something?) Now he wants to form a new band with Gackt and Sugizo and two other people who still remain secret. And Toshi has contacted him again (conscience has won, Toshi, right?) and they've been considering a 'reunion' of X Japan. It seems that Yoshiki has even allowed Toshi to sing the lyrics for Without You now.
remeciel: ciel jaune etoileremeciel on May 6th, 2007 08:50 pm (UTC)
A new band with Gackt? don't get me wrong, but can't he create a band without anyone who's already famous? after all, he's intelligent enough to know it's going to end quickly if some many famous people are in the same place... *worries*

So, Yoshiki was angry at Toshi, then? (I'm referring to what you said : he allowed him).
I didn't know that. What happened? :/
See you later, instigatoroudeteron on May 6th, 2007 09:00 pm (UTC)
Well, he and Gackt (and Sugizo as well) have known one another for a long time, and I figure they've both helped Yoshiki a lot. But I sure hope they're not going to argue in the band...

He was pretty angry, I think. X disbanded because Toshi started being horrible to the band (joined some cult, got married, and announced he couldn't be in X anymore). I have the feeling they've properly reconciled only now. And I do believe Toshi shouldn't have treated Yoshiki that way in the first place; it must have been awful for him.
remeciel: Hokutoremeciel on May 6th, 2007 09:06 pm (UTC)
Some cult? got married? you know much more than I! - I did stop searching for any information about j-rock since I had to work, actually...

He may deeply regret that his behaviour "spread" all over the band. :/
See you later, instigator: toshioudeteron on May 6th, 2007 09:10 pm (UTC)
*blush* Yeah, that's what he did. It seems that it was a sudden thing, too. I don't have much faith in all this, actually...I've seen The Last Live many times and Toshi was crying so often during the concert that I'm having a hard time believing he really wanted to part with the band.

Probably he regrets it now, though. He'd better...
remecielremeciel on May 7th, 2007 08:10 am (UTC)
I'm having a hard time believing he really wanted to part with the band.

How awful! he was forced to? this is getting crazy... :/
See you later, instigatoroudeteron on May 7th, 2007 01:13 pm (UTC)
Well, who knows if he was forced to or not? But I'd almost say that idea wasn't his own...or that he changed his mind when it was too late.
remeciel: Eleganceremeciel on May 7th, 2007 07:49 pm (UTC)
*sighs* It was such a big mistake on his behalf. Nothing he can do now can "heal" anything. :((
See you later, instigator: yoshikiloveoudeteron on May 7th, 2007 09:01 pm (UTC)
I think so, too. It's a big deal that he and Yoshiki seem to have forgiven each other finally.
remeciel: corps fémininremeciel on May 8th, 2007 07:29 am (UTC)
At least they both ended with the good decision to take... forgiveing must have been hard for Yoshiki, though.
See you later, instigator: toshioudeteron on May 8th, 2007 11:38 am (UTC)
Yeah, I suppose... But they must be glad to be on good terms again, right?
remeciel: chateauremeciel on May 8th, 2007 11:44 am (UTC)
*nods* I guess anybody would be happy to be friends with somene they used to work with or used to be friends with. :)
See you later, instigatoroudeteron on May 8th, 2007 11:51 am (UTC)
Right, I'm just glad Toshi didn't completely shut him out in the end. I've seen so many videos of them on stage together, hugging and just having fun that I can't imagine them as enemies, honestly...
Lesaabsolutefiction on May 4th, 2007 01:45 am (UTC)
Man, I never really go that indepth with my music-love. That's cool that even after learning about him after his death, you still mention it.
See you later, instigator: yoshikiloveoudeteron on May 4th, 2007 11:17 am (UTC)
Thank you. ^_^

I thought he deserved the mention because he was just so amazing, and I really love his work. I don't want him to be forgotten, at least not so soon. So I do what I can.

I'll admit it, I actually cried that day. I wonder how Yoshiki was dealing with it...
