Out of the closet with you!

And just so I don't get out of practice, I have the opportunity to use this phrase for the second time in the last twenty-four hours: it's official! JKR has actually confirmed that our beloved headmaster, mentor figure, genius powerful wizard Albus Dumbledore was in fact gay and in love with none other than Gellert Grindelwald. Some news articles are available here, here, here and here, as well as at a million other places, I'm sure. (I like going through the evidence, as you can see!) Some of these posts are so suggestive that they make me wish to see a video of the conference so damn badly. Lucky people who were there!

While what an author says in an interview isn't the same as if it had been spelled out in the book, this really is awesome news. And in context it's so significant that it just can't be ignored as some odd bits and pieces of information tend to be. Way to deliver a message, JKR! *applauds*

Well, people who go around calling all slashers horny idiots who just want the sex as a matter of principle, what do you have to say about this?

Let's check my current ship status while we're at it: Dumbledore/Grindelwald (official), House/Wilson (very promising to become official, too) and, of course, Remus/Sirius (not outright canon but not disproved, either). It would seem I have a knack for picking my favorite couples.

Now, just to keep up with the form of my previous entry...WE ARE CANON!

I'm so proud.

All I can say is YAY! It feels so amazing to be canon! And after all those: "Wow! Your fic is what? How...creative... I would never have thought of it... O.o" I got on HPFF it feels especially amazing. I'm feeling triumphant.
There's a small discussion in remusxsirius, by the way. And as I said there, I really don't want any Remus/Sirius confirmation anymore. The fact that homosexuality does exist in HP-world is enough. And I'm not sure JKR would dare approve of another "controversial" pairing. So I really wish no-one would ask her about R/S so that she doesn't have to shoot them down. I mean, AD/GG really needed her support, but R/S is already so powerful that it doesn't need any official confirmation.

Triumphant indeed! After all the "yeah, another stupid brat who just likes teh hawt smex" and other similar insults, I'm extremely delighted that now the whole world sees some slash pairings can be justified! (I'm probably saying it a bit too radically, but whatever. It's not my job to have politically correct speech. XD)

I'll make sure to check out the discussion in remusxsirius. Speaking of which, have you seen that huge celebration over in grindeldore? The comments are rising so rapidly on the post that just during today, I saw them go up from 140-ish to well over 200! I wonder what the count is now... ; )

I agree with you about Remus/Sirius. All in all, I'll be completely content with the subtext and the unclear policies regarding these characters. Oh, and the fact that they're together for good now, of course.
rising_larkrising_lark on October 20th, 2007 10:12 pm (UTC)
And the world's really got to see it. I'm annoyed by all those people who say "I've got nothing against homosexuality, but why put it into the Harry Potter books? And she said it only to be politically correct." No and no. I'm sure of it. Those people should really step out of their imaginary little worlds where no gay people exist.

Of course I saw it! Frankly, I got a little frightened of all those posts flooding the community. I think I posted something incoherent like EEEEEEee! because it was my first post after I learned the news. ^_^

Yep, they are together, and nothing else matters. =)
See you later, instigator: Remus/Sirius3 (by wicked_visions)oudeteron on October 20th, 2007 10:26 pm (UTC)
Yeah, preach it! I mean, that kind of comment ("I have nothing against it, BUT...") is what could be called the politically correct nonsense. I've seen or heard it so many times and it's always the same. (It made me laugh in a discussion about Brokeback Mountain where someone said, "I have nothing against gay people, but why do you guys keep promoting them?") In any case, JKR wasn't even asked if Dumbledore was gay or straight or whatever - she brought the issue up herself. Nothing was forcing her to face it at all! Besides, politically corrent statements are practically always vague, and this was everything but.

Oh, I freaked out when I saw the number of the posts! (Just when I had been so sad that nobody had posted in that comm recently. Now this makes up for the abstinence!) I just...started posting a lot as well. xD

Together and unbreakable!

"I have nothing against gay people, but why do you guys keep promoting them?"
Haha, I just read exactly the same comment! Only in the end that person added something like, "I don't care what they stuck up their asses at home as long as they don't go out promoting their lifestyle - blah-blah-blah." I hate that. It's treating gay people like sick people all over again. I seriously can't understand it.
And I can't understand how come so many fans didn't see it coming. I mean, it really was there.
Okay, now I will never go to sleep tonight.XD

See, they really are repeating themselves! Though the comment you have seen was even worse than my find. And yes, I can't stand that sort of attitude. It's as if those people expected homosexuals to be glad they aren't outright hunted anymore (except that hate crimes still occur anyway!) and just isolate themselves from the rest of the population. *rolls eyes*

Well, a lot of fans didn't see Remus/Sirius either, so I guess it could only be expected they wouldn't notice Grindeldore until JKR stuck it right in their faces. OMG SHE SAID IT, YAY FOR THE MILLIONTH TIME!

Aww, what's the time at your place? Here it will be 1 AM in a few minutes... XD
rising_lark: eomerrising_lark on October 21st, 2007 08:59 am (UTC)
Yeah, it's very much like those racists who say, "I don't mind black people, only I don't want to see them anywhere near me" (and this is something a real person once really told me. eww.) But here it's perfectly normal. You know, some people at school used to insult me because I've got black curly hair.

I guess you are right. But I'm getting really annoyed by all those "Dumbledore is old, he can't be in love" comments. I mean, we saw him young in DH! ^_^

Er, it was about 3 AM when I finally closed my laptop (and I couldn't go to sleep till 4 cause I was so excited).
See you later, instigator: hideoudeteron on October 21st, 2007 09:52 am (UTC)
Eww, racism. Really, I don't understand how some folks can still believe in something like that. And that's awful you were insulted just because of your hair! I know I never was the most popular person at school, but at least it wasn't for any such reasons...

Love knows no gender or race or age! It seems like some fans want to avoid canon!Grindeldore at all costs, so they go making up stupid excuses. Besides, as you said, we got quite a lot young Albus action in DH! What were they reading, anyway? XD

Oh, I know! I forced myself to go to bed at about 2 AM, but then I couldn't fall asleep, and when I finally did I just kept waking up and cackling maniacally in the middle of the night. But oh well, it's worth it! ^_^

I am freaking DYING to see a video of this! Why wasn't anyone taping it???

I love JKR so hard right now.

Why, why, why?! Apparently nobody thought there would be such a big revelation going on. But really, we should be able to see this...

JKR rocks! Now I can safely say I love authors from the British isles who know how to shock. ^_^

You get a double 'amen' for the price of one! XD

I can't say I'm holding out much hope since they don't have tapes from any of the other readings. Aaargh, why didn't ANYONE sneak in a camera?

Hahahaha

Score!

people who go around calling all slashers horny idiots who just want the sex as a matter of principle, what do you have to say about this?

This is certainly one of the most satistfaying thing to deal with after hearing this news. Slashers were right, and any homophobic fans can't change it at all. XD
See you later, instigator: Remus/Sirius2 (the_8th_square & teh_indyoudeteron on October 21st, 2007 10:02 am (UTC)
Yes, it makes me feel so triumphant! Not only because of the fans who are outright homophobes, but also because some people think they're so freaking special if they don't have any favorite slash pairings. And then they just say slashers are stupid without even bothering to learn about one ship or another.

Hahaha, in their FACES! XD
remeciel: Windremeciel on October 28th, 2007 08:39 pm (UTC)
*laughs madly with you*
This is what I call a NICE revenge. We can't be despised or looked down at anymore. Their favourite author acknowkedged a canon truth about one of their favourite characters, so now they must live with this! XDD
*evil laugh*

Ahh, yes, I feel so avenged now. If I had any empathy for the anti-slashers, I'd feel sorry for them, but I just can't manage it. What a shame. XDD

Strangely enough, I can't feel any empathy at all for them. How strange. How weird.

I'll forgive JKR the epilogue for this. XD
remeciel: spike and juliaremeciel on October 31st, 2007 03:02 pm (UTC)
Heee, I'm not ready yet to forgive her for the epilogue. XDD

(and I just read a chapter in DH where she said that Lily would have been the one who would have baked a cake for his 17th birthday if she were still alive. Er, excuse me? his MOTHER? not his father, or his godfather? JKR, sometimes, feminism certainly needs to go by you...).
See you later, instigator: Remus/Sirius3 (by wicked_visions)oudeteron on October 31st, 2007 05:39 pm (UTC)
*laughs* Well, none of my favorite characters was in it, so it's easier for me to forgive the whole thing!

(Well, that's just how Harry sees it. And I think we'll agree that he's perhaps the most oblivious character when it comes to relationships, so it's no wonder he's expecting them to go traditionally. Remember the Remus debacle? *rolls eyes*)
remeciel: Lyon growls!remeciel on November 2nd, 2007 05:00 pm (UTC)
*laughs* Good point. I can't say that the epilogue deeply left a mark upon me. XD

You DID have a point here. I can't picture Harry anything but oblivious, only living in his own world sometimes... there are so many moments he felt like an intruder when he's with Ron and Hermione that it does make sense.
See you later, instigator: Remus/Sirius1 (by wild_huntress)oudeteron on November 3rd, 2007 03:36 pm (UTC)
It scarred me for life, too. XD

Really, I was amazed Harry actually picked up on Grindeldore at some point. Because as we've agreed, his ability to read relationships sucks. ; )
remeciel: allwaswell_DandGremeciel on November 4th, 2007 08:05 am (UTC)
I think only your father remained clam. *g*

Oh, seriously? Harry did notice that Albus must have had a relationship with Gellert? NO?! wherewherwhere? XD
See you later, instigator: Remus/Sirius3 (by wicked_visions)oudeteron on November 4th, 2007 12:09 pm (UTC)
XDD

Well, he didn't say it outright, but I was intrigued by these parts:
Harry about Dumbledore: "I don't know who he loved, Hermione, but it was never me. (...) He shared a damn sight more of what he was really thinking with Gellert Grindelwald than he ever shared with me."
Of course, Harry isn't suggesting anything between himself and Albus (how can anyone believe that nonsense?), but he sees how important Gellert was to him. And that those two hadn't been just regular buddies.

Then there's this conversation between Albus and Harry about Gellert:
"Perhaps that lie to Voldemort was his attempt to make amends...to prevent Voldemort from taking the Hallow..."
"...or maybe from breaking into your tomb?" suggested Harry, and Dumbledore dabbed his eyes.

There's a lot more evidence for AD/GG, but this is where even Harry seems to have got it. ; )
remeciel: lighthouseremeciel on November 5th, 2007 08:21 am (UTC)
I remember the first part you're referred to - since I'm re-reading the book, it's perfectly clear in my mind. I still need to get to the second part you told me, though, because it doesn't ring a bell at all. *hides*

Still... you're right. I've never thought of Harry as a very intuitive guy when it comes to sentiments. He tends to be more... reclkess, I may say, when it comes to actions, though. I can't remember how many times I was thinking to myself: "Just think before acting, Harry"! XD
